An was ready to do the Panorama Trail hike in Yosemite National Park so the five of us drove up to Glacier Point to drop her off. On the way up there, we were greeted by some smoke and a couple of smoldering logs and grass. Nothing out of the ordinary. Yet.
15 Minutes further up the road, we were stopped by the park rangers and they informed us that we had to wait for the pilot vehicle that would take us further up to Glacier Point. The reason being that they were having controlled fires on the side of the road so only one lane would be available. The pilot vehicle was taking cars up and down the road on that one lane. Not much later, we were driving through clouds of smoke and seeing fire trucks and fire fighters doing their thing. Every year, they will have a couple of these fires to help the park maintain itself. Pretty impressive, right?
Also, did you know that giant Sequoias actually need fire (heat) to regenerate? Check out this cool video on it.
