Our first stop is a couple weeks of “home”, recharging our batteries and replenishing our souls with family and friends. It simply is heartwarming to be around our parents and grandparents. And for the kids to practice their rusty Dutch!
Next, we’re off to an “easy” start, road tripping the US and Canada with a travel trailer. So excited! We couldn’t resist the charm and cool-factor of an Airstreamer, and can’t wait to make one our home for a couple weeks. The kids decided that day 1 in the trailer is day 1 of our adventure. We’ll catch the eclipse in Central Oregon, travel north into the Rocky Mountains (Banff/Jasper), come back to Yellowstone, and then onto Yosemite via Lake Tahoe. Wrapping up with Disneyland. (Oh yes! The kids totally negotiated that one!! I’ll have to be dragged into the park, but will probably love it just as much as they will!). We then pack up, drop the trailer and fly to Costa Rica to explore the Caribbean east coast, and hopefully try some surfing. From there onto Peru, Chile, Patagonia, Easter Island, Tahiti and Australia. Or something like that. We should celebrate New Year’s with the fireworks over Sydney’s harbor. What lies beyond is South-East Asia.
Some of the travel has been booked, but most of it we have not yet. Plenty of time and mind space for that once we are on the road. We’ll want to discover what our “style” is, and what makes our family groove. Are we better when we move every couple days, or better to stay put for a couple weeks? What will a typical day look like? How do we incorporate school?
At the fear of sounding like a marketing firm — we have had a fantastic experience working with a company called AirTreks, who assisted us in booking flights. For some it’s a hobby, but I really do not like scouring the internet for the cheapest deals. They never end up being cheap, they never work just for the timeframe we need, and when you think you find a deal, it’s gone. Or at least, that’s my experience. With a couple clicks and a super efficient phone call, Airtreks had it all sorted for us. Efficient, I like.
